Big Blind

Board, The

Bounty

Burn Card
When dealing community cards in online Texas Holdem Poker, the first card dealt is always burnt or discarded to prevent from reading of marked cards.
Button
A symbol to flag which player is sitting in the dealer's position.
Buy-In
The amount a player spends to get into, or buy into an online Casino game or online Poker tournament.
Call
Matching the amount of the latest bet on the online poker table.
Cap or Capping
Term that applies to online Limit Texas Holdem Poker. In a limit game, betting the last amount allowed before the maximum allowed number of raises is reached.
Capped
When betting is no longer allowed in a round because the maximum amount of raises has been reached.
Card Cap
An object (usually a chip) placed on top of your two pocket cards to show that you have a hand in play. Also referred to as a “marker”.
Cash Out
Cashing in your chips and leaving the online Poker table, or online Casino table.
Check
To pass your turn to bet in online Poker, provided that there are no previous bets pending.
Chip(s)
Plastic “coins” used in online Poker and at the online Casino that represent a certain monetary amount.
Clubs

Drawing Hand

Fish

Flop
In online Poker these are the first three community cards dealt face up on the table.
Flush
An online Poker hand of five cards where the suits all match.
Fold
To give up your hand and forfeit the pot to the remaining players.
Four-of-a-Kind
An online Poker hand consisting of all four cards of the same type.
Full House
An online Poker hand consisting of three-of-a-kind and a pair.
Heads-Up
An online Poker hand between only two players.
Hearts
One of the four playing card suits. Formerly representing the clergy.
High Limit
An online Poker or online Casino game where the amounts wagered are high.
House, The
The establishment where a game is being held.
Jackpot
A prize fund awarded to a player who meets a set of predetermined requirements in the online Casino.
Kicker
The remaining undeclared cards in a five-card online Poker hand.
Kill Game
A game where certain requisites create higher stakes and/or create a third blind.
Late Position
Being one of the last to act in a betting round in an online Poker. Usually an advantage.
Limit
The type of betting in a game; online Limit Texas Holdem, online No-limit Texas Holdem.
Live Hand
An active hand. One that has not folded.
Live Game
A game where you are physically near the other players.
Low Limit
A game where the amounts wagered are small.
Main Pot
The first established pot before a player goes all-in and creates a side pot.
Muck
To discard your hand, especially after an opponent reveals a better hand.
No Limit
In online Poker, the amount you are allowed to bet is limited only by your chip stack.
Nuts, The
The best possible hand in online Poker.
On the Button
Being the last player to act in a betting round (Dealer's Position).
Outs
The number of cards left in the deck that will improve your hand.
Overcards
Cards higher in rank than the highest card on the board.
Overpair
A pocket pair higher than any of the cards on the board.
Pair
An online Poker hand comprised of two cards of the same type.
Pocket Cards
The two cards dealt to you at the beginning of an online Texas Holdem Poker hand that no one else is entitled to see.
Pot, The
The amount of money and sum of the bets being wagered on in a game.
Pot Limit
The highest bet that you are allowed to place is always equal to the existing pot.
Rainbow
Used to describe cards of all different suits.
Rake
Money taken by the house to compensate for expenses.
Rag / Rags
A useless card or cards in online Poker.
Re-raise
Putting in another bet on top of a previous raise or raises.
Rebuy
An online Poker tournament option where players can purchase more chips after going below a certain amount or after losing all of their chips.
River
The fifth and last community card dealt face up in an online Texas Holdem game.
Rock
A passive, tight player.
Royal Flush
The highest ranking hand. Having a straight 10 to Ace of all the same suit.
Rush
A winning streak.
Scramble
A thorough shuffling technique whereby the shuffler spreads the cards face down over a large area and scrambles them. This is also known as a wash.
Semi-Bluff
Betting with a mediocre or drawing hand
Set
Three-of-a-kind using a pocket pair that matches a card on the board.
Short Buying
Purchasing chips after your initial purchase.
Short-Handed
A game with few players.
Showdown
The final phase after all betting has ended and players reveal their cards.
Side Pot
Bets made into a new pot after a player has gone all-in.
Small Blind
The smaller of the two blinds posted prior to the dealing of cards, placed by the player sitting directly to the left of the dealer.
Spades
One of the four playing card suits. Formerly representing nobility.
Split Pot
When two or more winning hands tie and divide the pot.
Steal Raise
A raise by someone in late position in an attempt to reduce the number of players and/or steal the pot.
Straight
A poker hand with five sequential cards. In online Texas Holdem Poker, Aces can be high or low.
Straight Flush
An online Poker hand comprised of five sequential cards all of the same suit.
Suit
A characteristic of a playing card. The card being either of Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, or Spades.
Suited
Cards that are of the same suit.
Table Stakes
The rule that you can only play a hand with the money you have at the table.
Tell
An action that gives clues about the cards someone is holding.
Three-of-a-Kind
An online Poker hand consisting of three cards of the same type.
Tight
A player who selects hands very carefully and folds easily.
Top Pair
Having a pair with the highest card on the board and one in the pocket.
Top Two Pair
Having both your pocket cards match the highest two cards on the board.
Trips
Three-of-a-kind using one of your hole cards that matches a pair on the board.
Turn
The fourth community card dealt face up in an online Texas Holdem game.
Two Pair
An online Poker hand consisting of two different pairs.
Underpair
A pocket pair of lower value than the lowest card on the board.
Wired
Having two pocket cards of the same rank.
